Opportunity for Prospective Students to Learn About Campus Programs and and Meet Faculty

(Livermore, CA) –  Las Positas College (LPC) in Livermore has scheduled a Spotlight Series of open houses this summer to introduce new and current students and their families to the many academic programs and services available at the college at 3000 Campus Hill Drive in Livermore. “This unique series offers students an excellent opportunity to take a glimpse into life at Las Positas College. In addition to a comprehensive overview of our programs, faculty and staff from admissions, financial aid, counseling, and special programs will be available at each event to answer questions,” says LPC President Barry Russell.

The series kicks off on Tuesday, June 6 at 4 p.m. at the Science and Technology Center II (Building 1850) on campus with an introduction to the Math, Science, Engineering, and Public Safetydepartments where visitors will learn about the programs offered and the job opportunities they avail. Participants can also participate in hands-on demonstrations in Science, Engineering, Math, Horticulture/Viticulture, Administration of Justice, Fire, and EMT/Paramedic.

Dean Nan Ho and the highly regarded faculty and staff will be on hand to greet visitors and answer questions. Last year, Ho was recognized for recommendations to the National Human Genome Research Institute on how to better engage educators in order to better integrate genomics curriculum into classrooms. She was one of just 25 faculty members selected from across the nation to attend the Institute’s 2016 Short Course in Genomics.

Next up on Tuesday, June 27 at 4 p.m. is a look into the Arts and Humanities divisions at Las Positas, where visitors can experience Music, Theater, Dance, Languages, and the Arts and Humanities. Dean Don Miller will host the event with the talented and creative faculty and staff at the Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts (Building 4000).

On Tuesday, July 11, students can learn about the Business, Health, Athletics, Work Experience, and Kinesiology programs at Las Positas College. Presentations will be held between 4 and 7 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex (Building 2500) and will feature Health, Nutrition and Kinesiology activities led by LPC’s well-trained and certified faculty and staff. Discussions about the Business, Accounting, Work-based Learning, and Entrepreneurship are also planned. Dean Amir Law, the faculty, staff, and athletic coaches will also be on hand to answer questions.

Finally, on Tuesday, July 25, students with a special interest in the Computing, Applied Technology, and Social Sciences are invited to learn about LPC’s Early Childhood Development, Automotive and Welding Technology, Computing and Social Sciences programs. Dean Don Carlson and his talented and technically savvy faculty and staff will be in the Learning Resource Center (Library in Building 2000) ready to meet the public and answer questions from 4 to 7 p.m.
