SCU Lightning Complex Fire UPDATE

LIVERMORE, Calif. (8/24/2020, 10:00 a.m. — As of 10:00 a.m. today (8/24), the situation remains the same and the current fires DO NOT pose a threat within Livermore or Pleasanton City Limits. We continue to monitor the fires and communicate with CAL FIRE and Alameda County, and we will provide an update later today. CAL FIRE also issued a news release explaining that while they appreciate the public’s desire to donate food and supplies, they do not have the infrastructure to manage those donations. COOLING & CLEAN AIR CENTER: The City of Livermore and Livermore Area Recreation and Park District will open a Cooling Center today and tomorrow (Aug. 24-25) from 12-5 p.m. at the Robert Livermore Community Center. It will be a place to beat the heat and get inside and away from the unhealthy air quality outdoors. Social distancing and face covering requirements will be in place at the cooling center. Capacity is limited in order to comply with Alameda County Health Orders. Bottled water will be available. Masks will be provided if needed. To monitor air quality, visit www.airnow.gov.

TESTING SITE CLOSED TODAY: The COVID-19 Regional Test Site at Alameda County Fairgrounds is closed today (8/24) due to poor air quality. Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare will continue to closely monitor local air quality and assess impacts and provide further necessary updates.

LIVERMORE, Calif. (8/23/2020, 9:00 p.m.) — As of 9:00 p.m. Sunday (8/23), CAL FIRE reports that the situation remains the same. The current fires DO NOT pose a threat within Livermore and Pleasanton City Limits. Expected high winds and lightning have not materialized, so the fire has not spread to the north. We will provide another update mid-morning tomorrow, Monday (8/24).
LIVERMORE, Calif. (8/23/2020, 6:15 p.m.) — The current fires still DO NOT pose a threat within Livermore and Pleasanton City Limits, but the voluntary evacuation warning for the large unincorporated areas of the County south of Livermore and east of Pleasanton remains in place. Since this could change, however, it’s important to get prepared and stay informed. The Evacuation Map for the SCU Lightning Complex Fires can be viewed at www.tinyurl.com/scu-evacmap (yellow is the voluntary evacuation warning area; red is the mandatory evacuation area). While evacuations are not currently necessary inside Livermore or Pleasanton City limits, it’s important to get prepared. Sign up to receive important alerts, including any evacuation alerts, through the County’s AC alert system: www.acalert.org. Prepare a “go bag”, gas up your car, and make preparations to evacuate pets, if needed. For assistance with large animals, call the Alameda County Fairgrounds where they have established a large animal shelter: 925-803-7041. Map out your exit route and identify several places you could go in case of an evacuation, such as a friend’s home in another town or a motel in the opposite direction from the fires. LIVERMORE, Calif. (8/23/2020, 12:45 p.m.) — The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Bay Area for today, Sunday (8/23) through Monday (8/24). Strong gusty winds and lightning are expected, which may spread active fires and spark new fires. The current fires still DO NOT pose a threat within Livermore and Pleasanton City Limits, but the voluntary evacuation warning for the large unincorporated areas of the County south of Livermore and east of Pleasanton remains in place.
You may see fire engines passing through the community to get to the SCU Lightning Complex fires and the County fire station on College Avenue has been activated as a deployment center, but there are no active fires in Livermore or Pleasanton.
While the fires do not pose a threat within Livermore and Pleasanton City Limits at this time, the situation could change, so it is a good idea to get prepared and monitor the latest fire activity at the CAL FIRE website: www.fire.ca.gov/incidents. Identify several places you could go in the case of an evacuation, such as a friend’s home in another town or a motel in the opposite direction from the fires. Assemble supplies that are ready for evacuation, including supplies for pets. Prepare a “go-bag”. LIVERMORE, Calif. (8/22/2020, 8:30 p.m.) — Alameda County has issued a voluntary evacuation warning for the unincorporated areas of the County south and east of the Livermore City Limits. This is NOT a mandatory evacuation order. The fires DO NOT currently pose a threat within Livermore and Pleasanton City Limits, and the evacuation warning DOES NOT extend inside city limits.
Alameda County’s message is as follows:
“Due to anticipated high winds and scattered thunderstorms forecast to occur in Alameda County, and throughout the Bay Area, beginning as early as tomorrow morning and continuing through Tuesday night, CAL FIRE has issued an evacuation warning for eastern Unincorporated Alameda County (See Evacuation Map included — Yellow indicates Evacuation Warning area and Red indicates Evacuation Order area). This warning is being issued in advance of the weather event because of the remoteness of this area and the limited egress routes, which may be inaccessible should this fire spread as anticipated. For those with pets or livestock, as well as those with access and functional needs, you are encouraged to leave the area. All others should be prepared to leave if the situation worsens or if they perceive a fire threat. For those who need shelter for Livestock, please contact Alameda County Animal Services at 925-803-7041 to make arrangements for their housing. If a mandatory evacuation order is issued, a Temporary Evacuation Point will be provided.”
